On 17th-18th December 2019, Hatemeter partners illustrated the main results of the project and its platform aimed at preventing and tackling anti-Muslim hate speech online, in the Training Seminars at the University Toulouse 1 Capitole.

Gabriele Baratto (University of Trento) and Serena Bressan (FBK) presented the work of the HATEMETER project on Islamophobia online at the “XXXIII° Congresso Nazionale della Società Italiana di Criminologia” in Modena (Italy), with a speech entitled “Hatemeter: misurare e combattere l’islamofobia online attraverso l’uso di strategie e contro-narrative intelligenti”.

Sara Tonelli (FBK) participated in the conference of the project “Contro l’odio” for monitoring and contrasting discrimination and hate speech against immigrants in Italy, illustrating the results of project Hatemeter.

Sara Tonelli (FBK) presented the work of the HATEMETER project on Islamophobia online at the “Giornata del Centro Studi sul Linguaggio” in Trento (Italy), with a speech entitled “Hate languages: an analysis of the Islamophobic discourse on Twitter in three different languages”.

Evidence from European project Hatemeter”.
23.07.2019 – HATEMETER PARTNERS INTERVIEWED ON RADIO POPOLARE, ITALY
Sara Tonelli (FBK) was invited to be a guest on the Radio Popolare talk show “Tamarindo”, where she illustrated project Hatemeter and its preliminary results as well as the partnership with the dissemination event “Voci per la Libertà – Una canzone per Amnesty” (“Voices for Freedom – A song for Amnesty”) that took place from 18th to 21th July in Rosolina Mare (Rovigo, Italy).
28.07.2019 – Hatemeter at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), Italy, Florence
The FBK paper “CONAN – COunter NArratives through Nichesourcing: a Multilingual Dataset of Responses to Fight Online Hate Speech” (Chung, Kuzmenko, Tekiroglu & Guerini) on Hatemeter preliminary findings has got accepted in the “57th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL)”. The international conference took place in Florence (Italy) at the ‘Fortezza da Basso’ from July 28th to August 2nd, 2019.

21.07.2019 – Hatemeter at “Voci per la Libertà – Una canzone per Amnesty”, Italy, Rosolina Mare
Hatemeter project is partner of the 22nd edition of “Voci per la Libertà – Una canzone per Amnesty” (“Voices for Freedom – A song for Amnesty”), a festival that combines music and human rights and took place from 18th to 21th July in Rosolina Mare (Rovigo, Italy). Hatemeter researchers and volunteers participated in the event, where they illustrated the preliminay results of the project.

On 16th May 2019, the University of Trento researcher Elisa Martini presented project Hatemeter within the course of Socio Territorial Work (Mod. 2) at the Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Education of the Department of Biomedical and Surgical Sciences of the University of Ferrara – branch office in Rovereto at the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Sciences of the University of Trento.

31.01.2019 – “HATE SPEECH AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS” – CERRE Roundtable, BRUXELLES
On 31st January 2019, the Hatemeter project manager Serena Bressan (Fondazione Bruno Kessler) participated in the CERRE Roundtable “Hate Speech and Artificial Intelligence Tools” in Brussels (BE). The goal of this roundtable was to explore the opportunities and the risks of using machine-learning techniques to fight hate speech. The event provided an opportunity to discuss the rules which should be adopted on platforms to maximise welfare and protect fundamental rights.

On 30th January 2019, researchers Stefano Bonino and Elisa Martini (University of Trento), Marco Guerini and Alessio Palmero Aprosio (Foundation Bruno Kessler), Jerome Ferret and Mario Laurent (University of Toulouse 1 Capitole) and Jen Schradie (Science Po University) presented the Hatemeter Platform (v1) to the Collectif Contre l’Islamophobie en France (CCIF) volunteers that firstly tested the platform for the Hatemeter France pilot in Paris.

On 24th January 2019, researchers Elisa Martini (University of Trento), Marco Guerini and Stefano Menini (Foundation Bruno Kessler), Parisa Diba (Teesside University) presented the Hatemeter Platform (v1) to the STOP HATE UK volunteers that firstly tested the platform for the Hatemeter United Kingdom pilot in Leeds.

On 15th January 2019, University of Trento researchers Elisa Martini and Stefano Bonino, and Foundation Bruno Kessler researcher Marco Guerini presented the Hatemeter Platform (v1) to the Amnesty International Italia volunteers that firstly tested the platform for the Hatemeter Italian pilot in Rome.

The Hatemeter project manager Serena Bressan is participating at the “ICT2018: Imagine Digital – Connect Europe” taking place in Vienna on 4-6 December 2018.
In an open and participatory event, organised by the European Commission and the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, citizens can join science community members, policymakers, and fellow ICT-enthusiasts to discuss the future in a digital Europe.
22.11.2018 – “Online Anti-Muslim Hate Speech in Italy and Great Britain” seminar, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh
On 22nd November 2018, University of Trento researchers Stefano Bonino and Elisa Martini and Teesside University researcher Parisa Diba presented the preliminary findings of project Hatemeter at the University of Edinburgh’s Citizens, Nations and Migration (CNaM) Network and at the Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World.
